Students will be asked to write a final paper at the end of the semester about some of the things they have learned during the course. They will also be asked to choose a book of their choice on social or digital media at the beginning of the semester, read it, and incorporate what they learned from it into their final paper. The final paper should also incorporate research and a minimum of three sources including the book. Students will be asked to zero in on some aspect of social media they found interesting this semester and focus their paper on that as they write. Their book may provide more information on the specific topic they choose. We will be discussing many different topics this semester, and there is probably a social media book about each one if you search Amazon.
Zero in on a social or digital media topic that you find most interesting. This could be anything from social media and mental health to cryptocurrency.
Search Amazon for a book on this topic. It will be your responsibility to read the book this semester, and you will incorporate what you read into this final paper. Take notes as you read the book so that it will be easier to write at the end of the semester.
Don’t just write a few sentences from the book. If you don’t convince me that you actually read it and know what you’re talking about, you will lose points.
Research and read more about your topic by reading academic journal articles. You can log into the University of Mississippi Library online and use OneSearch.
When you get an idea about what you want to specifically write about regarding social media, take notes this semester from the articles you are asked to read each week. That will help you write the paper at the end of the semester. Set a Google alert for your specific topic so that you can continue to learn more about it and find resources for your paper.
Tell us about how this social media topic has evolved over the years. Based on your research, how do you think this topic will continue to evolve or be studied in the future?
Feel free to search online for a social media expert or experts to interview on your topic, and include part of their interview in your paper. This is optional.
Write a 10-page, double-spaced, 10 pt., Times New Roman-font, paper about your topic. Cite your sources in footnotes AND within your paper by saying: Example: “According to the Journal of Social Media, …”
Pay attention to grammar, punctuation and AP Style.
