Because this written draft is for a 5-6 minute speech, it should be between 1250-1500 words (your citations/sources do not count toward the word total – it needs to be this long so that you have more info and more sources than necessary – we will always add or delete sentences for the final draft as you pick from the best info and the best sources after getting it all into this draft).
Because this is a draft, I will award you points for the words you complete (out of 70 points).
The word count for this draft excludes external sources and your references/bibliography. This means that to meet the word count requirement, you will need to introduce your quotes and the authors, only give 1-2 lines from each quote, and then explain why the quote was important to you and to the speech.
Please do not take more than 1-2 lines from a source as those words do not count toward your total – our goal is to synthesize and utilize the information.
Five different citations / different sources – sources should be dated between 2015-2022 (nothing older!) – cite them at the end in a works cited page – but be sure to actually write them into the speech – don’t use more than a sentence or two for each source quote/paraphrase – I need to see your ideas on what you researched – not just source’s writing (20 points)
Be sure to put your draft in APA format (10 points).
i made an outline already:
Specific Purpose: To inform reader about the War in Ukraine.
Central Idea: The country of Russia has planned an invasion for over ten years. Main Points:
I. In 2014, Russia attacked a Ukranian in Crimea.
II. The Ukrainian government began negotiations with the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization in order to provide sufficient military equipment incase of a Russian
III. In 2021, Russian developed a “special military operation” securing over 150,000 on the
boarder of Ukraine.
In the Art of Public Speaking, Stephen Lucas outlines a form of informative speech using the Chronological Order method. One of most relevant current event is the conflict in the European region. The country of Russia has invaded Ukraine in an effort to control local politics and resources. This has effected the global economy and created inflation around the world. Due to the economic sanctions placed on Russia, the cost of gas had risen to an historical high and even created loss of petroleum in certain parts of the world.
The conflict started back in 2014 when Russia initially invaded Ukraine in order to control its’ petroleum exports. “One month later, in March 2014, Russian troops took control of Ukraine’s Crimea region. Russian President Vladimir Putin cited the need to protect the rights of Russian citizens and Russian speakers in Crimea and southeast Ukraine” (Counsil on Foreign Relations 2022). The Ukrainian military was able to secure the central and western land of Ukraine. Since this invasion, there has been strategic attacks against major ports, CyberSystems, airfields, and other critical civilian technology. For example, in 2015 the Russian government ordered an underwater missile attack against an Ukrainian submarine on a key entry port on the boarder of the country.
Shortly after this invasion, the country of Ukraine elected President Zelensky to lead the country in its international affairs. “Nato offered Ukraine a path towards membership in 2008. After Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, Ukraine made joining a priority. But this hasn’t happened, mainly because of Russia’s long-standing opposition” (BBC 2022). One of his key strategic goals was to develop a stable relationship with the Western hemisphere through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This effort was to ensure the country of Ukraine could provide effective homeland security due to the high-risk nature of war with the Russian country.
After five years of executing a well-developed relationship with NATO, the leader of the Russian government ordered a special military operation. “The Russian Federation must call off
its “special military operation” and perceived declaration of war against Ukraine, members of the Security Council demanded tonight in a heated emergency meeting, condemning contraventions of international law and the United Nations Charter, and raising alarm about the dangers of an explosive regional conflict fomenting a global humanitarian crisis not seen since the Second World War” (United Nations 2022). In this plan, Valdimir Putin planted over 150,000 troops and auxiliary on its shared boarder with Ukraine. In less than 60 days, Putin ordered troops to invade the boarder of Ukraine. The military unleashed a series of airstrikes, missile strikes, tank bombing, shelling, and other force to overthrow local governments. Since the early 2000’s the Russian government has been planning ways to control the European region through Ukraine. It’s most recent series of attacks against the country shows the acts were premeditated.
