My topic is Fashion throughout the 20th century. I wanted to focus specifically on men’s fashion through the first half of the 20th century (1900-1950s.) I need 5 different types of sources, book, website, magazine, film, video, etc. They must BE RELIABLE and ACADEMIC sources.
Here are the instructions from my teacher:
You will be collecting 5 different sources of information on your topic and will provide a short summary of each (120-150 words) in the format of a Chicago Style annotated bibliography.
** A small sentence at the end on how I will include this/ how it will help my project is necessary.
Outcomes addressed by this task:
Research, in systematic ways, specific information from a variety of sources
– Select appropriate information to meet the requirements of a learning task
– Analyze and evaluate the chosen information
– Integrate chosen information, in a way that effectively meets the requirements of a learning task and/or solves personally defined problems
Use note-making, illustrations, and other ways of representing to reconstructing knowledge
Consistently use the conventions of written language in final products: ACADEMIC in tone.
What is an annotated bibliography?
An annotated bibliography is an account of the research that has been done on a topic. For the purpose of this assignment, you are looking for a variety of texts (visual or text). The final product will be a bibliographic entry for each of the five sources and under each entry, you will write a one-paragraph annotation.
***************What should be included in the annotation?*******************
Each annotation should be in the range of 100-150 words to meet minimal expectations.
In the annotation you should:
State the type of text (essay, article, poem, picture book, song, movie)
Summarize what the text is about and its main idea/theme.
Explain how it relates to your topic and reflect on how it broadened your understanding of some aspect of your topic.
MAKE SURE YOU STATE HOW IT ANSWERS YOUR RESEARCH QUESTION
Chicago Style Page Formatting
The Chicago Manual of Style states the following formatting rules. Check your assignment description in case your instructor has other instructions.
The text should be double-spaced.
Numbering starts on the first page of writing (not the title page), at the top right of the page.
Reference list entries must have a hanging indent
There should be 1 inch (2.54 cm) margins all around (top, bottom, left, and right) on each page. To achieve this in Google docs it must be 0.75
Use Times Roman font, or a similar serif font. Arial,
Each paragraph should be indented using the tab key.
How do I know what goes into a bibliographic citation in Chicago Style?
Note: We are doing descriptive annotations- you do not need to evaluate your sources.
