CASE 1: Josh was out walking in Lincoln Park one night. As he was approaching the well lit tennis courts near Irving Park Road, he witnessed a vicious fight between a member of the Northsiders Gang and a member of the Southsiders Gang. He witnessed the Southsider stab and kill the Northsider. Josh ran; but unfortunately, he ran right into the police. They stopped him and questioned him right in front of the killer. The prosecutor, who is prosecuting the Southsider, has subpoenaed Josh. But, members of the Southsider Gang have threatened to kill Josh if he testifies. The prosecutor needs Josh as their star witness, and the prosecutor has informed Josh that if he refuses to testify, Josh will be in held in contempt and could go to jail.
What should Josh do? CASE 2: Miguel and Maria have been best friends since high school. After a lot of hard work, they both became heart surgeons. They have remained close, and they see each other often. They both work at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Miguel is a world recognized heart surgeon. However in the last year, his dad died, and his wife left him for another man. Maria has noticed a change in Miguel. He has been partying a lot, and she has even noticed that at work he often has bloodshot eyes and alcohol on his breath. She is afraid that he is performing surgery while he’s drunk. She loves Miguel, and she doesn’t want him to screw up his life.
