Prompt: After completing the lecture and reading assignments, compose a well-Written response paper to the following question: The ratio of physicians to
population continues to increase beyond estimated needs. An oversupply of physicians in many urban regions contrasts with continuing problems of access in
Tural and inner city areas. Discuss why you believe the maldistribution of physicians persists in spite of the number of physicians graduated? What solutions do you as a Christian healthcare administrator recommend to alleviate this imbalance?
Requirements: Do not use the question in the response. Papers must include a
substantive elaboration on the topic as well as suppoort from scripture. Proverbs 19:21, 2 Corinthians 8:13-15, Matthew 6:19-21, Colossians 3:23, and Galatians

Paper below:
The word maldistribution refers to “either a surplus or a shortage of the type of
physicians needed to maintain the health status of a given population at an optimum
level” [Leil51]. And Merriam-Webster definition of maldistrabution is a bad or faulty
distribution: undesirable inequality or unevenness of placement or apportionment (as of
population, resources, or wealth) over an area or among members of a group of physicians.
There are several different reasons why the waldistribution of physicians persists in spite
of the number of physicians graduated. There are fewer in rural and inner city areas, but all of the
reasons are centered on one thing, and that is sovereignty. Physicians will apply for work in areas
that suit them best regardless of whether there is a need for their services elsewhere something
they can hardly be criticized for because that is what we all do.
Reasons for choosing to work in an urban area includes having access to better facilities,
technology, and equipment, as larger practices and hospitals face various diverse of challenges
on a daily basis. This means that they need to have medical equipment and procedures that can
deal with such cases. Doctors tend to thrive on these kinds of challenges, so it is understandable
that they are going to be attracted to these jobs[Rog00].
Another reason why there is such an oversupply of physicians in urban areas is due to the
fact there are larger hospitals with more financial and superior opportunities for research grants.
This has caused a maldistribution among hospitals. The larger hospitals have better equipment
and technology which means better ways to treal patients. An additional reason 1s that people have stereotypical ideas of what an inner citv or a
rural hospital or a physician that practice there will be like. Inner city equals deprivation, povert
and crime in a lot of people’s heads, and rural equates to boring, poor and uneducated. Whether
these predeterminations have any base in reality is irrelevant, pnysicians will go where they think
they are going to be happier Gar001. As a Christian healthcare administrator I would recommend that all
